Why do I even have a blog? I guess for the reason that perhaps, I may actually post something! I'm trying to remember what has happened in the last 18 months and it's not <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">comin</span>' to me. I can remember most of the summer though. It was a fun and busy one. I started off the summer with the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Winterbottom</span> Family Reunion in Mt. Pleasant; then had Girl's Camp up North Fork Canyon; then Youth Conference in Alpine where we took on Big Kahuna and Lunch Counter again; next, Ryan and I went to Bear Lake with our DEAR friends, Julie and Dan; after that I spent two amazing weeks at the family cabin where we swam, tubed, boated, went to Jackson, did Big Kahuna and LC again, four-wheeled, played games etc.; and most recently I just got back from an awesome trip to Lake Powell with the Kaye Starr Singers. It's been so great! Here's pictures of some of the said events:</div><div><div><br /></div><div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKbf-5DtsN8dbe5DtDvsKAk9ZSzMAoSV6j2r78ILu1yFuMdGl_4KsnAnL4LPewwUUVyB-e70wyda0RJ91bm5O7lOOUxo9ULZ_URk3uvkhayOL2Mu2G8IjRYQqCAkKiD-6xiOBow1UyWlA/s400/34145_1223221960504_1827645433_436048_5381316_n.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519410107357382562" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 234px; height: 400px; " /></div><div style="text-align: center; ">Most of the Fisher Clan at the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Manti</span> Pageant</div><div style="text-align: center; "><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Winterbottom</span> Reunion - June 2010</div><div style="text-align: center; "><br /></div><div style="text-align: center; "><br /></div><div style="text-align: center; "><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrPBJ4nEJdEFW9gS3r9Enf1xkcVeMcJsQUSe-968qFKCuUAmpcr_5crPqDW9LUqPGHrRhkKtKrAOZPT1e5K2aq5AXzKmYlCsevya2_VUFeCtYq3-TR0v-68ResKOEUJCWJPfhhG5geCu8/s400/fullres-9.pl.png.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519442646590161810" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 268px; " /></span></div><div style="text-align: center; "><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Hittin</span> the Big Kahuna with Syracuse 4<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">th</span> ward</div><div style="text-align: center; ">Youth Conference - July 2010</div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#0000EE;"><u><br /></u></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWvBnbjdycyMdeA2ySHsP1ClH5978PII3yjgq7fAJrfyASZ8wgrr1o9XHHcMvt2lRda42NTxsttYLmrJCTK261ail9qKej8nCvQPcFb65RKpW4YpETFPV7OZzEYAyNJwMpk4tOK9hP1Gw/s400/cabin+016.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519410137778694002" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></span></div><div style="text-align: center; "><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">Gettin</span> ready to tube the Snake. <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">Yee</span>-haw!! We figured since so many of us have March birthday's (Katie, Amberlee, Cheridan & me) we would find a time in March to stay over at a hotel. On Friday, March 13th Adie picked up Katie, Cheridan, Amberlee, me & Kara and we started our journey to Salt Lake. Oh, what fun! We were like giddy school girls going on a faraway journey, not MATURE adult women going a mere 20 miles down the road! After we got checked in to the Embassy Suites we went out to have our pictures taken by a PROFESSIONAL! Thank goodness we have connections. Kara took us out to random areas in downtown SLC and we strutted our stuff. Rather, we tried to strut our stuff! I would tell you how great and beautiful and amazing the pictures turned out but I have YET to see them. (Hint hint Kara!) No, really, I know our professional is VERY busy trying to move and sell a business while keeping up with her own photog sessions so we will be patient! That night we went to eat at Bacci's, laughed, shopped til we dropped (almost literally--ha) at Gateway, went hot tubbing, laughed, ate some more, talked and laughed well into the night. It was such fun to get away for a night with some of your best friends. I see many more of these "getaways" in the future!<div><br /></div><div>Here are a few pics from the trip!</div></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><br /><br /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhMG_j263575NUQblTtEQTAdg8YwvOPSCodn3-OlHK7GO9EfvXjbLkURVgDkhBOBo0JA6yJRCb2Kk5EHoWCcxKC9QZSk2MQ1ZwZPjok_ihhhyYqB9hF3Lws8TNh7-XXVm6lU6d0FO52x4/s400/6a00d8341cbef653ef011570390456970b-800wi.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329799022933403490" /><div style="text-align: center;">One of the professional shots Kara took. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgADJmD13UbuXEZKUPlDTMI1lO6xReJBh3spG9ulCcXJpUZaK36KL7U7SXn7mHrsp0kUsjLe7Dm2SJXAGhrOpM0WSvkUXJpbkx5Opy9Anq53Iv2SBRxLfKqJ2cuqgp8XIu6mpYT0obsr4M/s1600-h/DSCN0505.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgADJmD13UbuXEZKUPlDTMI1lO6xReJBh3spG9ulCcXJpUZaK36KL7U7SXn7mHrsp0kUsjLe7Dm2SJXAGhrOpM0WSvkUXJpbkx5Opy9Anq53Iv2SBRxLfKqJ2cuqgp8XIu6mpYT0obsr4M/s400/DSCN0505.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329799025065091378" /></a><div style="text-align: right;"><div style="text-align: center;">Two of the Triple K's</div></div><div><br /></div><div><div><br /></div><div><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsahyVLuun9uHBevPg9OFOhZQkR5F-UbLdt6RaA5Z6Yun0KFx2zktV0jFd_gCHQOapoQNOslGDjWI7ZN02gWP0C1mIZjtK95uzXpLVWdqheiDVw8RO6j8XvibteT6fNUz0aJGz3zzy1LQ/s1600-h/RSCN0515.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 316px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsahyVLuun9uHBevPg9OFOhZQkR5F-UbLdt6RaA5Z6Yun0KFx2zktV0jFd_gCHQOapoQNOslGDjWI7ZN02gWP0C1mIZjtK95uzXpLVWdqheiDVw8RO6j8XvibteT6fNUz0aJGz3zzy1LQ/s400/RSCN0515.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329799018798018802" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">Shopping at Gateway (Kara, Katie, me & Cheridan)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdjhjDuDjITkgPs329PhZKwmu3uBFouguSNy1ErokczVEvcM9YrzyyPjzkYgk4npjrbawTE5kaQzyaqH2g6t5bfbROVFt3xWCGMPnsjNPRxQ0ORmScczbMWtF2Y_f7CJNLD5prIJnXbAM/s1600-h/DSCN0506.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 357px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdjhjDuDjITkgPs329PhZKwmu3uBFouguSNy1ErokczVEvcM9YrzyyPjzkYgk4npjrbawTE5kaQzyaqH2g6t5bfbROVFt3xWCGMPnsjNPRxQ0ORmScczbMWtF2Y_f7CJNLD5prIJnXbAM/s400/DSCN0506.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329799015914783426" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">(Me, Amberlee, Cheridan & Katie</div><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div></div></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-282274977997202616.post-10401426755215801932009-02-24T09:34:00.001-07:002009-02-24T09:35:31.436-07:00Fun, Fun, Fun!I saw this on Katie's blog and thought it was a cute idea. I fully don't expect anyone to read this entire post, but I wanted to write it down for posterity's sake! </span></div><div><br /></div>I haven't posted in almost three months. What the heck? I guess I just didn't want to. :) A lot has transpired during this hiatus, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Eve, girl get-togethers, surgery, new babies, and perhaps a few other things. <div><br /></div><div>For now, I'll focus on a recent occurance! Sometime in early December Ryan and I went to eat at Ruby River. I ordered a delicious stake and we had a nice dinner. About an hour after we ate I started feeling a dull ache right in the middle of my chest/sternum area. It was a somewhat familiar feeling as almost a year to the date prior I'd had a similar occurance, yes, it was the lovely feeling of passing a gallstone. This gallbladder attack lasted all through the night and well into the next day. Over the coming weeks I had many more attacks which led me to see a surgeon, have an ultrasound, and eventually schedule a surgery. Of course, they were too busy to get me in until January 8th, so they threw some narcotics my way and assured me it was perfectly fine to wait three weeks for surgery. The big day finally came and Ryan and my mom accompanied me to the hospital. The surgery was 90 minutes long, I stayed in recovery for about seven hours, and then I was on my way.</div><div><br /></div><div>Now, this is a very common, fairly simple laparoscopic procedure. I went into this thinking, "Oh, this will be a piece of cake! I'm gonna live up all the time off I have from work!" It didn't quite turn out that way. For one, I was not prepared for the pain from the incisions! When the nurse in same day surgery had me stand up to use the restroom, the pain caused tears to spring my eyes! Ha ha! Aside from that, the first three days after surgery went quite well. The fourth day however, things changed. I got an intense pain in the middle of my chest and couldn't breathe and it was quite awful so I went to the ER. They initially thought it might be a blood clot in my lungs but ruled it and anything to do with my chest out after doing a CT, EKG, X-RAY and blood tests. By then the pain was gone cause I was so doped up on dilaudid so they sent me home. From then on I got sicker and sicker. I called my surgeon's office the next day to tell them how nauseous and itchy and sick I was, and the nurse told me I was just having an allergic reaction to the medication (yeah, whatever). By the following day, I was so sick (wretched vomiting-sorry) I didn't know what to do. I called my surgeon who, wouldn't take my call but told the answering service to tell me to go the the ER. Whatever jerk, I was just there less than two days ago, and all they did was drug me up and send me home! Sure, why don't I go and pay another $150 copay! Anyway, I DID end up going because I wanted to rule out anything serious, and things just didn't seem right. After doing ANOTHER CT and more blood tests the cute ER doc came in to tell me they're admitting me. Even though I knew something was wrong, I was shocked! I've never stayed overnight in a hospital. (Hmmm, actually that is totally untrue as I'd worked graveyards for EIGHT years at the hospital, but anyway, not as a patient.) </div><div><br /></div><div>I suppose yellow eyes, root-beer colored urine, and crazy itching all over by body might have been an indication to some people that something was wrong with my liver, but I didn't catch that, especially when my nurse said I was just having allergic reactions to medicine and I figured I was just dehydrated from not being to keep anything down in days. Anyway, I had to transfer to Mckay-Dee (which is joyous to be a patient at your place of employment) since my surgeon didn't have rights at Davis. The RN told me I HAD to go by ambulance, but I asked my doctor if we could just drive, and he overruled the nurse, thank goodness. By the time my mom and I got to Mckay's ER (after cruising home to get some of my belongings-oops) they told me they were admitting me directly to room 4207. Wait a second, my sis-in-law Missy was in room 4204 after just delivering her and Weston's first baby boy! They told me surgical was full and OB is their overflow. What a crazy coincidence.</div><div><br /></div><div>I stayed the night there-and by the way, they wouldn't let me have anything to eat or drink, not even an ICE CHIP-and the next morning I went to Nuclear medicine for a HIDA scan (TWO hours on this skinny flat table!). I guess that's when they discovered there was a stone that "got loose" when they took out the gallbladder and it was lodged in my main bile duct which was causing my bile to back up in the liver, thus causing the liver to shut down. So, I went back to my room to await my next procedure, an ERCP. While waiting, it was nice having Missy and I only three doors away from each other, so family members were able to kill two birds with one stone. Along with my family I had some great friends who came to see me in the hospital. Thanks for coming Denise, Amberlee, Liz, Cassie, and Ashley. Love you girls! </div><div><br /></div><div>So when I find out the ERCP is done in the GI lab, I immediately text my friend Cameron who works there. I told him I would be coming over later. He responded by saying, "Wow, you're having an ERCP, that's a huge procedure." Oh gee, great. So after waiting all day the transporter (my co-worker) took me to the GI lab. Upon arriving I was greeted by Cameron who made it oh-so-fun! It definitely helped ease any nerves I may have had. He, along with my nurse teased me about things they would do to me while I was "out." My mom thought the nurse looked familiar and asked, "Are you a Schenck?" The nurse's face was priceless as she didn't know how to respond when I finally told her the Schenck's are a family we know! She said, I was just wondering how you knew my reputation! We all laughed and laughed! Anyway, soon the GI doc came in and continued to tell me about the procedure and what would happen. This was the basic gist of the conversation:</div><div><br /></div><div>Dr. Porter: "Hi Sweetheart, I'm Doctor Porter and I'll be doing your ERCP today. Basically we take a tube with a scope, go down your throat and esophagus , into the stomach, through the small intestine, and back up through the main bile duct. Then we look for the stone, then use a hook to cut the stone out, pull out the hook and put in a balloon that we'll take up above the stone, blow it up, and bring it forced the stone back down into your stomach." (Say wha?) </div><div><br /></div><div>Me: (Say wha?) "Oh, ok."</div><div><br /></div><div>Dr. Porter: I've done this procedure more than any doctor in the state of Utah. The national average length of time for this procedure is 90 minutes, my average is eight minutes. The national average risk for pancreatitis is 20%, my percentage doesn't exist because it's never happened. The fact is you'll get pancreatitis if we don't the the stone out, or your liver shuts down completely, and then you can die. Any questions?"</div><div><br /></div><div>Me: "Well, alrighty then."</div><div><br /></div><div>It was funny that he was <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;">so</span> confident in his skill, but I really liked it too. It was nice to know I was in such good hands. Before I knew it, I was done and people were talking to me. Dr. Porter told me it took ten minutes, so I guess I just bumped up his average. Before I left the nurse looked at my back and said, "ok, it looks good." Turns out they had put on some fake tattoos during my procedure. Ha! So funny. I can only imagine the position I must've been in for them to get to the middle of my back! Oh dear.</div><div><br /></div><div>Anyway.......I got back to my room and after awhile they let me have some broth. It was so heavenly! Ryan came up and ended up staying with me that night in the hospital, even though he had to be up by 7am to get to work in Salt Lake. It was very sweet! I finally got to go home the next day, and by then was finally starting to feel not so nauseous. I went back to work a week and a half later and ironically enough, my first week back to work I got strep throat, and had to miss another two days. Nothing like using up all your personal leave time! </div><div> </div><div>That was all about a month ago and I can say I'm feeling great and completely back to normal! I know I had some complications and it wasn't fun at all, but after researching things I realize that things could have really been worse. I'm so grateful they weren't and so grateful for wonderful people in my life who are so caring and supportive. I'm especially grateful for my mom who was there for me through everything from driving me to and fro, to cleaning up vomit, and coming to check on me on her lunch break everyday!</div><div><br /></div><div>I know Amberlee took pictures of me in the hospital so I'll have to get them and post them. HA HA, yeah right!</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-282274977997202616.post-14274372491321769702008-11-26T12:56:00.003-07:002008-11-26T15:18:02.096-07:00LACK-Dawg'sApproximately eight years ago, a large group of random people planned to take a weekend trip up to my cabin in Idaho. The people consisted of old friends, new friends, ward friends, and friends of friends. For a week or two we prepped, planned and anticipated for the big group. In the end, only four came; Laura Leatherwood, Amy Shackelford, Celeste Johnson, and me. Who would have ever thought such an unlikely grouping would become forever friends!? <div><br /></div><div>Amy and I met in the good ol' Island View Park Singles ward after she, Val & Holly moved up from Salt Lake City. One of my first memories of Amy was on one Easter Sunday. I walked into Sacrament meeting only to be accosted by a cheerful, smiling head, with an enormous Easter bonnet atop! Only Amy could pull that off! </div><div><br /></div><div>Celeste is two years younger than me and we grew up in the same ward together. We go back to the days of slicked back motorcycle hair (Celeste-ha ha), girl's camp antics, and forming our own branch of the Buttercream gang. I usually didn't even mind driving that pesky sophomore to school.</div><div><br /></div><div>I met Laura when I was a Senior in High School. I was going on a trip with Adie's family and we picked up Laura on the way. Before I ever met her, all I knew was that she was "the good eater" of the entire Leatherwood family, and let me tell ya....that is saying something! We hit it off that trip and have never looked back.</div><div><br /></div><div>So back to the cabin trip...aside from one or two mishaps on the drive up (who turns the radio up full-blast when one of the passengers worked the grave the night before??) we had a nice time. Although, I actually don't remember the trip, all I know is ever since the four of us have been inseparable. Ok, that's a bit extreme, but we have spent a lot of time together, often going to dinner every single month. I suppose I should be a more consistent blogger so I don't forget everything. Among the happenings: Ryan & I went to the BYU game in October, Kellee and I sang at Stake Conference, we had our annual niece/nephew Halloween party, Baby Ashton was blessed on November 2nd, and last weekend had a fun GNO. <br /></div><div><div><br /></div><div>Another fun thing Ryan and I did was to hang out with Becky and Caleb. Becky is my sister and she married Ryan's look-alike. Ok, not really. But we're <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic; ">practically</span> related! Her sister Hollie is married to my brother Jed. And Caleb and Ryan look a lot alike!</div><div><br /></div><div>We went to eat at a Chinese restaurant where apparently I mortified Becky & Caleb by asking if I could make one or two substitutions, to which I was told, I COULD NOT! I mean, what if I don't like the fried shrimp? Ryan must be used to it. After dinner, we went bowling where I CRUSHED everyone's score. I bowled 126, Caleb 106, Becky 103, and Ryan....well, I don't know if he'll appreciate this, but he got 68. HA HA. Good times!</div><div><br /></div><div>Here's some pics of the night:</div><div><br /></div></div><div><br /></div><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYlEUwPP7YV1A_G_eGob6DbM08L8rYQIVi4l0-J7gkzr75_GVT9-s4sX5tq0g5_ouuSwsJexvBvBBVYsbRaN8TpD94-JCU3P4czKbIp14jbOWyqcZXjwl3SAFfr0e8M3axzsp31PtU4M0/s400/DSCN0428.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270090703417240034" /><div><br /></div><div>We set the camera on the top of the car and set the timer. Everything the past month as been so beautiful. The weather has been perfect and the leaves on the trees are so colorful! I've had a fun month. Ryan and I went to the BYU game three weeks ago, and two weeks ago I went with my family to my brother's cabin in Bear Lake, and this past weekend I went to Amberlee's fun Halloween party.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Amberlee has pictures of me at her very first birthday party, so you can imagine the history we have. It's been over a month and a half! It's crazy too because it seems like there's been a lot to write about. Oh well. I'll go back...<br /><br />Back in the first week of September, my 2nd oldest brother Brady got married. A few months prior, a close friend of Brady's pursuaded him to sign up for LDS Singles. After going out with one hoochie girl, he went on a date with Mindy. Now, mind you, Brady has been rather bitter towards women (and for good reason) for quite some time. So the following event <em>had</em> to be a miracle! Upon dropping Mindy off at her house on their first date, he got it. He got a strong impression she was to be his wife. If any of you know Brady, you'd know that whenever he heard stories about how people <em>knew</em> after one date, he'd roll his eyes and call 'em crazy! As he pulled out of her driveway, he uttered the words, "Oh, CRAP" (though to be honest, I don't think crap was the word he used)! He later said he felt like the Lord had to hit him over the head with it because he probably wouldn't have asked her out again (not because he didn't like her, but because he wasn't interested in getting serious with anyone). So after five months of dating, the got married in the Manti Temple for time and eternity. Our families made the trek to Manti and had a very nice time. After the ceremony we reconvened at the local B&B where they had a luncheon. Brady and Mindy had asked Kellee and I to sing a few love songs, which for any <em>normal</em> person would be fine. I, however, seem to bawl like a baby whenever singing at weddings.<br /><br />Case in point: February, 2002, Jed (brother) & Hollie's wedding luncheon. It was the first time singing at the wedding of someone with whom I was closely related. Kellee beautifully started belting out the words to Martina McBride's "Valentine" while I waited for my verse to come. I got out the first four or five words out before a loud, PFFFTTTTT, was heard throughout the PA system when I started to cry. I stopped "singing" and proceeded to apologize into the microphone. Luckily, my sister-in-law RaNae motioned to Kellee to finish out my verse. I think I may have pulled it together somewhere towards the end of the song, but I really don't know as I've tried to block it from my memory.<br /><br />Anyway, back to Brady's wedding, we sang "God Blessed the Broken Road," and "Standing Right Next to You," at their request and ALMOST got through it with a snafu. I was doing quite well until I looked around and saw that everywhere I turned someone was crying! My voice was rather shaky on a couple parts, but at least I didn't snort into the mic! After we sang we had a special surprise for the Newlyweds. Brady had requested us to sing a song called, "I've Got a Winner in You." It really is a cute song and had a sweet message, but Kellee and I weren't about to sing some Don Williams song, so I taught it to Brady's son, Preston. I played the guitar for him while he sang and it was a total surprise. If I thought people were crying during our two songs, then they were sobbing during his! <br /><br />After the luncheon, the Fisher clan headed to Mt. Pleasant-where my mom grew up-and went to our grandparents headstones, the house my mom grew up in (which is now a cute B&B), and some of her relatives homes. Although there was one or two mishaps (just ask my brother Brett about his drive there), it was a very happy, wonderful day!<br /><br />So, that was just one of the many things that have happened since my last posting. I'll put up pics from the wedding soon! :)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-282274977997202616.post-55651292567411061982008-08-31T06:08:00.000-06:002008-08-31T06:43:06.057-06:00Events of August<div align="left">Since today is the last day of August, I figured I better get caught on all that's happened. It's been quiet an eventful month!<br /></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="left"><strong>Girl's Camp: August 12-15</strong></div><div align="left"><br /></div><div align="left"><strong></strong></div><div align="left">I was quite looking forward to girl's camp this year, just as I always did when I <em>was</em> a young woman! We met up at 5:45am, had a devotional, and hit the road. We went to the Etna/Jackson Hole area to stay in our YW Pres's cabin. We got unpacked and unloaded and got right into it. Without giving a play-by-play of all that happened, I'll reveal some interesting observations and highlights of the trip.</div><div align="left"><br /></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left">-It is VERY different being a leader than being a young woman. And to be honest, I'm not sure which I like better. I actually kind of felt stuck in the middle. I liked being with the leaders and getting closer to them, but at the same time, I felt more comfortable, and more myself with the girls. </div><div align="left"><br /></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left">-I've always prided myself on being good with directions and knowing where I am, but when given a compass with coordinates, I was clueless. All of the girls were too, but not anymore!</div><div align="left"><br /></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left">-Girls can do impressive things when given a bag full of random items. We gave them bags filled with different objects that they had to make articles of "clothing" with to show off on the runway. </div><div align="left"><br /></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left">-River rafting on the Snake River is very different on different stretches of the river! I know this is a "duh" comment, but I thought going swimming/rafting in the Snake river every year of my life since I was born would not cause any nervousness in me. I was wrong. This stretch was <em>not </em>the same as the stretch in front of my cabin. However, once we got on the river, my nerves dissapated and we had a great time, even despite the arctic temperature of the river. </div><div align="left"><br /></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left">-Some girls are just happier than others! About four years ago he had surgery to have three discs fused. Since then, his back has gotten worse and the time came that he needed to go back "under the knife," if you will. This time, they had to take out all the screws and do-dads from before, and then fuse two more on top, and two more below, meaning seven discs in all fused. Poor man. His surgery went well, but now, almost two weeks later he is still majorly suffering. After the last time he had surgery, he was superman and had an extremely speedy recovery. This time is clearly different, and it's starting to weigh on his spirits a bit. However, he is quite groggy much of the time since they have him doped up on so much pain meds, which by the way, he would absolutely hate if he was at all coherent! Anyway, hopefully he will recover well and be back to himself soon!<br /><br /><div align="left">Upon returning to his room after surgery, my dad's lips were quite swolen due to the anesthetic. I told him, "Dad, I didn't know you were coming in today for Botox injections!" Still "under the influence," he kept pursing his lips saying he was inpersonating Britney Spears. I don't even know if she's done the Botox thing, but nonetheless, he kept saying it. Ha ha, I hope he doesn't kill me for posting this. :) </div><div align="center"></div><br /><br /><div align="center"></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5240657926579908338" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiTeKMtfCAMnqCDCa47-_Vhwea1Eni7-Q6HZxsL1Erw5WWhGAuMaMM-EJBlhu8ZlLpv2pwqrL3YIBL13jvLlqL6nqhXy39sR5XJ1Q5L7Edb6MQBz3ZpnIEk_reLNuCYmjCmZRiUzPgB5E/s400/Dad+after+surgery.JPG" border="0" /><br /><div align="center"></div><br /><p align="left"></p><br /><p align="center">Here's my dad with the T-man :)</p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5240655042891464050" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx-15MA1_JHkHrsduMRh5EUAi6ocU0LQ2Q_5H83clndkcHDh8NEmdKPSUvsDb_2KRlSA6bm2Y1jjU3Lg4YfJmE8ivqTTP5aKBVFhy8zFGSzjlqhyG1e6yzNSy4ydIlkIjWs_D0AJq8oIc/s400/tayson+and+dad.JPG" border="0" /> <p align="center">Get well soon, Dad! </p><p align="center"></p><p align="left">Not two days after my dad's surgery, we were blessed with a new bundle of joy! I've been going there for years now and I wanted him to partake of its greatness! My first time to CapitOl Reef was for our Senior trip. Oh, the memories! Adie's family has a summer home in Teasdale and that's where we decided to go to celebrate our graduation. In fact, I'll have to post pictures from that first trip. Since then, I've been fortunate enough to travel there many, many times and it holds a very special place in my heart.<br /><div></div><div><br /></div><div>For Ryan and I the weather was overcast and rainy most of the time, which was good and bad. Nice, because it was cool. Bad, because we couldn't go down CapitOl Reef Gorge due to the possibility of flash floods. Nevertheless, we went to Fruita, the waterfall, Gooseneck overlook and drove all over seeing the sites. It was relaxing and wonderful to spend time together! </div><div></div><div><br /></div><div>I forgot my camera so I turned to my trusty-though poor quality-cell phone camera and produced these masterpieces:</div><div><br /></div><div></div><div></div><div><br /></div><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5235433308080141586" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLYZQb_jNRYMHq5ttLx5u3sCxGudJxaB2Fo3LeGUmYjEnEfP7D4TcpF0H34qk8SI3Tsq86uKrWWIKVMdIawBW8mW2YTfnQc27CcdHJ9jcWBBx_FZEFvmgM3nngK5gd0WX7dmooVUUkKCA/s400/CapReef3.JPG" border="0" /></div><div align="center">Isn't this beautiful country?<br /></div><div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></div><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5235432963802465650" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_8_kSCi_payFLhDmWLonLkwyfEOdnuqmZMqSXTleyX7NouR6nN9pKpxEgfWF-DX5Fql9QogFs3kUTVV6BCuRswaaehW7SuDblHXmhIQic3Uwd6R7DcqNWgZIUCT0NwmKeF9IOAKYOCXA/s400/capReef1.JPG" border="0" /></p><div align="center">Notice how red the river is.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /><br /></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5235460993999728850" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLgTqS61MGfRa6imVGwwzg1kmRXaQfMHaHiK5FBf67ghSLZSN9_qE76tYmnpHPLyj4NKlu73ylvoztMYOmV-vod2n34BzQmAMZLrgNgf08QuMWUL1KNpOawTxdl6pS8s8n23CoB5mH44Q/s400/CapReef2-touch+up2.JPG" border="0" /> <div align="center">At the top of the waterfall. I never got around to blogging about our time at the cabin, but rest assured we had a wonderful time! As always, we swam in the river, rode the four-wheelers all over, went tubing, body floated from the bridge, played bacce, went into town to get ice-cream at Dave's (who has incidentally raised the price from .79 cents to .99 cents! As much as they pack in those cups though, it is WELL worth it!), went to the Ashton City 4th of July parade (which is a pretty awesome parade since they go through town once, then turn around and go back through again! They threw out candy, t-shirts, balloons, toys and even walked around giving out chocolate milk cartons), went to Rexburg to shop at the scrapbook stores, went to Mack's Inn Theater and saw a satirical musical called The Phantom of the Grand Ol' Opry, and of course, I did my fair share of reading (The Twilight series)! It was nice to go for 10 days, but it still didn't seem long enough.<br /><br />Since then, life has returned to normal, which translates to busyness. Luckily our KSS rehearsals have ceased during the summer, but I'm still working at LDS Hospital, putting in almost sixty hours a week. As a comment on my blog, write about a memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!<br /><br />2. Next (if you choose to), re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you.(Even if you don't want to re-post this on your blog, leave a comment anyway.)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com20tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-282274977997202616.post-30709186241168891722008-07-25T04:04:00.003-06:002008-07-25T04:38:18.545-06:00Three Whole Years!<div>It was three years ago today I met Ryan. I remember what he was wearing and the first thing he said to me. He was witty, quirky, sweet and all of twenty-three years. We eventually had our first kiss, and the rest is history.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Today was our day to celebrate our time together. He arrived at my house around 6:30pm with a beautiful bouquet of spring flowers. From there, he took me to one of our favorite restaurants, Tepanyaki. As always it was delicious! Oh, and I only spilled on my shirt about eighty-four times! Sheesh! (At least it wasn't as bad as the time Laura spilled a plate of cheesecake in her lap though.)</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Anyway, we thought about going to the fireworks in Ogden but decided to go buy our own. We went to Smith's and spent approximately $15 (big spenders) on fireworks we never even lit. We got back to my house and opened the gifts we got each other. I got him the game of <a href="http://www.bocceballsets.com/?source=googleaw&kwid=Bocce%20Game&tid=broad">Bacce</a>, and he gave me a new MP3 player and wrote me a beautiful letter. Wow, he is the most amazing writer I know. Gosh, I wish I could post the letter for the world to see! He really is just so intelligent and creative and I don't know how he puts his words together. I could say the same thing he says but it would be so plain and ordinary! So, after reading his sweet letter (and shedding a couple tears-cause I'm a sap) we layed on the trampoline, watched the stars, and talked for hours. It was such a perfect night! </div><br /><div> </div><div>I love you Ry!</div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226898166938235330" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiSGy6Yefwd84B3vSu9Qf_cGgWkAOMhnEF7J_zgGfnaxspCL1VAvRLU2ScqEWe9Cn1h_HufkSLBVlcyWtMPZFzprXVle2NjyCi8QTUtsLKMfzjL4pVWy2W16mv50s_Sr7n5iSqaWBbJEc/s320/anniversary3.JPG" border="0" /></div><br /><p align="center">Pretty flowers!</p><p> </p><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226898168241757458" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8qzkKc7AGNDyzCrfcW6XXiaJSBCg_p6O-P5kOcjrcdUwuew64ZoXfN1HrZcgCQK9COJ8UaOCGk8NMGEuqQtrIrJ2yV-2ROZwf-g19HQjnZStOqxPEUhyphenhyphenOC0ohdmXzDZKByJno85rSnjo/s320/anniversary2.JPG" border="0" /></p><p align="center">Happy Anniversary to you!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5226898165238635234" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihK07hgnoXx9wMEnA0iOadu_XXEaNnFJWVzytiJ7x9khcEf2cwqnf2R4_ZrV23M9_13yVzdw0X8Hfo2Cu-qfvxg0B2hVv9imxGbtAJolR2qwyJKkepTHWZIjFmjIMsq5dr5aly4as23aY/s320/anniversary.JPG" border="0" /></p><p align="center">After several attemps at taking our own picture, this is the best we could come up with!</p><p> </p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-282274977997202616.post-63440442565664813532008-06-19T02:56:00.000-06:002008-06-24T04:24:11.658-06:00The Manti PageantWarning: Ranting/Raving Blog Ahead!<br /><br />After spending a rather uneventful day working at LDS Hospital, I was excited to meet up with Ryan and head out to good ol' San Pete County. I left work with an expectant giddiness as I made my way westwardly on North Temple. As there are several different possible routes that would take me to meet Ryan, I called him to ask which one he'd suggest. He concluded that during rush hour traffic, they would all be bad. I made the decision, and chose very, very un-wisely. Let me just say to anyone traveling in the Salt Lake Valley, don't ever take the 201 westbound to Bangerter around 5pm. HUGE mistake! I was so anxious to get on the road that the <strong>terrible</strong> traffic and a slight miscommunication with Ryan almost resulted in a near meltdown for me!<br /><br />By 6:20 we'd finally made it to I-15 and were well on our way. Things, by now, were going much smoother! We went to Manti by way of Springville, Indianola and Mount Pleasant. Once in Mt. Pleasant, (which is also where my mom grew up) we made a stop at the cemetary to visit my grandparent's grave. I wanted to show Ryan where they were buried, but I also wanted to visit myself, since it had been several years since I'd been. I found it right away and it was nice to take a moment to think of them. I hadn't realized, but they had both passed away 20 years ago. Time sure does fly!<br /><br />Shortly after, we were back on the road in hot pursuit of our destination! Ok, it wasn't a hot pursuit, but we were both pretty hungry and wanted to get there in time! We arrived in Manti and since it was a Wednesday night, saw that it wasn't too crowded. We found a great parking spot only a couple hundred yards or so from the action and headed to the seating area. We found great seats right in the middle section on the seventh row. What luck! We put down our blankets and went to seek out some food. They had a "food court" area with several different booths offering various "cuisines." We settled on some very healthy choices and shared home-made curly fries, "famous" marinated turkey, and a funnel cake with caramel topping. (By the way, while standing in line, I noticed how terrible the mosquitos were. I'd already gotten six bites at this point! Luckily, I brought bug-spray along, unfortunately, it wasn't seeming to work!) With ten minutes to spare before the <a href="http://www.mantipageant.com/">pageant</a> started, we sat down and started scarfing our food. About the time I was shoving curly fries down my throat, I noticed a woman and a young man walking aound the table at which we were sitting. They walked slightly past, spoke to each other, and then came back and asked if the seats next to us were taken. (Clearly, they were not, along with the four empty tables surrounding us.) The first thing they asked was if we had ever been to Manti before. I knew immediately they were not from the area and was immediately put on guard because I'd already seen all the protesters in front of the temple grounds. The next question they asked was if we were LDS. We, of course, said yes, and then I asked them what religion they were. They said they were Christian. I said, "Oh, are you here to protest the pageant?" (Ryan later told me he thought that was pretty bold and slightly rude, but hey, I said it in a nice way, AND I've dealt with protesters before and didn't want to get into it with them!) Anyway, they said no, they weren't prostesting, they were there to find truth. I got a little excited for a minute because I thought, "Wow, maybe they really want to know!" Needless to say, they pulled out their copies of the Book of Mormon and began to question different principles and beliefs. I thought it was so strange, the young guy kept bringing up the scripture <a href="http://scriptures.lds.org/en/moro/10/32c">Moroni 10:32</a> that talks about being perfected in Christ and denying ourselves of ungodliness. He kept saying, "How can we be perfect? How can we deny everything ungodly? So you have to be completely perfect to go to heaven?" Of all scriptures to choose to contest, I was confused as to why that one. I think it is a wonderful scripture that talks about giving all we can, and THEN by God's grace we can be perfected in Him.<br /><br />By now, the show was about to start soon. I didn't "bible bash" with them, but just tried to bear my testimony that if they truly were seeking the truth then they should really read the Book of Mormon with a sincere heart and the desire to know. I told them I didn't want to be rude, but the show was starting and I didn't want to miss it! We got up and started walking and they walked all the way back to the temple with us. It was clear they weren't there just to "find truth!" In their defense though, they were actually quite polite and not <em>too</em> pushy, but it was still not the way I was hoping to start my Manti Pageant experience, nor for Ryan!<br /><br />We got to our seats right as the prayer started and got settled in. I was praying that it would be a great show and Ryan and I could feel the Spirit. At this point, however, I couldn't help but notice the relentless pain/itchiness of the dozens of mosquito bites I now had! Grrr! They were everywhere, including several on my butt! I tried to ignore them and focus on the show, and it worked for awhile. There were a lot of cool effects, and if you haven't been in several years, they've updated a lot of things technically. It seems to be a bigger production too. About the time I started forgetting about my "protester" encounter, and the mosquito bites, I became aware of the four young teen boys directly behind us. At first, they were only making rude comments now and then, and mocking some of the narration. Soon after, it was more giggling and whispering. Not wanting to put a damper on their "fun," I let it go for awhile, but eventually turned and gave a quiet, "shh." It quieted them for awhile, but before long, one of them farted and they all started laughing and making farting noises! Are you kidding me?! By this point I was starting to get mad and I was worried cause I really wanted Ryan to get something out of the pageant. I kept telling myself, "It doesn't matter, just ignore them and focus!" But it was so hard! At the most climactic part of the play, (when all the angels appear in white on the hill and the couple reunites) these dumb boys were full-blown talking. I turned directly around and went, "SHHH!!!" It finally shut them up, but by this time I was so angry and the closing prayer was being said. After the prayer, I just wanted to turn around and say, "Don't you know how rude you were being?! Don't you know the person directly in front of you is trying to find answers about the church and all you did was talk, and laugh the ENTIRE time, therefore ruining it for the rest of us?!" Ha ha! I didn't say anything to them of course, and I know they were just young boys having fun. Even though there were some mishaps, it really was a fun night and I was happy to spend it with Ryan. The funniest part about it all is that Ryan thought nothing of the "protesters," nary complained about a bite, and he didn't even notice the talking-boys.<br /><br />Go figure!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-282274977997202616.post-45319439655879080402008-06-14T01:03:00.006-06:002008-06-14T02:01:53.955-06:00A Little of this and that! For the past three weeks I've been working a lot of overtime. I've been working down at LDS Hospital in the Maternal Fetal Medicine Department (my old job) twice a week. It's nice because anything I work over 40 hours, I get paid time and a half. I've been trying to save up as much money as I can since I've lately been on a big <a href="http://www.daveramsey.com/">Dave Ramsey</a> kick! For those of you who haven't heard of him, he is a financial guru who has had several books on the New York Times best seller list. He also does a radio program on 570AM every night from 7-10. I may be a nerd, but I love listening to his show! He is a Christian guy who believes it is important to not only save, but to give (as in tithing). The biggest points he tries to make are, get debt-free, don't use credit cards, and don't finance anything. During a portion of his show, he has people call in who have used his program and have become debt-free. They count down from three and yell, "We're debt free!" It sounds pretty cheesy, but it's actually really inspiring and I always get choked up because you can tell how "free" these people have become. Anyway, I've been following his plan for a few months and have become slightly obsessed. I'm completely debt-free and have saved over three months worth of income, on top of paying the maximum on my 401K. Another bonus, he's funny and has a cute southern accent. HA!<br />In other news, my brother Jed and his wife Hollie just bought a new house. They moved back here to Utah from Las Vegas almost two years ago and still have been unable to sell their house down there. Imagine paying a mortgage (a big one, too!) on a house you haven't lived in for almost two years! The market in Vegas is terrible and I guess there are hundreds of empty homes down there. BUT, at least they finally were able to get some renters, which has enabled them to get a home here. On Wednesday, the entire fam came together again to help them move in all their stuff. Ryan and I were also there tonight putting on doors and doorknobs. We also got to hang with Becky and Caleb for a little bit too! Becky is Hollie's sister and her husband Caleb looks rather similiar to Ryan. She must have good taste! Anyway, I'm really happy for Jed and Hollie, and my adorable niece Brookie!<br /><p></p><p align="center"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5211643815876517506" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG55VXl9IfDTNrHNnp6x3mezX51yDciu0qbbJCRCFggZC5adwo0J5yePZK-0RBghWEhkfQqb9mOauFK8MOv_aKeeQO_ZAR44sKy6_VK8OeYl8hWgBuKueERDpK2tV0FJQgAZZNBo_wd6Q/s320/brookie.JPG" border="0" /></p><p align="center">This is what happened to Brooke the last time she spent the day with Aunt Becky. Unfortunately, I don't have anything too exciting to blog about! I haven't had a lot of things happening lately. My average week consists of church, work, mutual, KS Singers, and Ryan. I suppose I'll write a little about each of those.<br /><br /><strong>Church:</strong> Church is always great, right? About four days before Mother's Day, the 1st counselor in the bishopric asked if I would speak. He informed me they usually ask people two weeks in advance, but somehow I'd slipped through the cracks. What?! I told him I'd prefer to sing, he said no. He also told me my topic would be on Mary, the mother of Jesus. Oh sure, no problemo. I have to admit, I was less than thrilled, but only because speaking is hard enough, let alone when you have four days and have to speak on someone as amazing and divine as Mary. I got to work and did a lot of studying. I learned so much about our Savior's Mother and what an example she can be to all of us. In the end, it was a wonderful thing for me to learn and even though I cried through 1/2 of my talk, all went well.<br /><br /><strong>Work:</strong> Oh boy! Where do I start? Let me just say this; for the past year our supervisors have been telling us about some BIG scheduling changes coming to our department. Every one of the employees have been up in arms over these huge "life-changing" events! LONG story short, after months of worry, fighting, anticipation-and maybe even some excitement-my shift stayed the same. Thanks for nothin.<br /><br /><strong>Mutual:</strong> This week we went to the Family History Center in SLC. Holy cow! What an amazing place. There is endless amounts of information at that place. The info on the microfiche alone goes on forever! I have never really been into geneology, but I've heard how people get so into it that it almost becomes an addiction. Before now, I've never really understood that phenomenon, but after going there, I can! I <em>may</em> even start doing some family history work myself!<br /><br />Side note: Not everyone was as thrilled to be there as me, i.e. some of the 14-year old girls who shall remain nameless!<br /><br />P.S. Did anyone else hear that the Catholic church will no longer allow names from their archives to be turned over to us for temple work. I think that is such a shame!<br /><br /><strong>KS Singers:</strong> Making a commitment to rehearse every single Tuesday is often hard, but it's worth it. I feel so blessed to have music a big part of my life. I also feel blessed to be able to sing with this group and sing such beautiful songs about the Book of Mormon. We've had so many amazing experiences from singing in St. George to San Jose, to Hawaii! One day I need to write about our trip to Hawaii and how amazing it was!<br /><br /><strong>Last, but certainly not least, Ryan:</strong> I love spending every last minute with him! We spent the last 9 of 11 days together and it was wonderful! Living over an hour apart from each other makes it hard to see each other more than 3-4 times/week so I'm feeling a bit spoiled. Things are going very well for us lately and I appreciate him so much. He is such a kind, patient, loving guy. He supports me in any/everything I do whether it's work choices, church callings or singing. Over the last two years and dozens of KS performances, he's probably only missed five. I love that about him. He is such a constant in my life and I know I can count on him for anything. In his kind, subtle ways, he helps me to be a better person. He's quiet and calming and reassuring. I love him and feel so lucky to have him!<br /><br />Well, I guess I had more to write about than I thought. Life is great. :)<br /><br />P.S. I want to give a shout-out to my BFF Celeste! It's kinda funny cause we were all in the Ogden University 11th Ward together. Chris, Carrie and I were roommates for a couple years, and once Carrie got married, Kathy moved in. We all always had a great time together. And aside from Chris not doing her dishes on occasion, we got along beautifully! (I know Chris won't read this, so I can say that. HA.) The other girls in our group also live(d) together, Kim, Cassie and Marisa. Actually, at one point we all lived at good ol' Christopher Village. Ah, the memories! Anyway, about a year ago we started doing a monthly Girl's Night Out (GNO.) We even have a symbol of our friendship! :D I think it was Chris who came up with the idea to get these <a href="http://www.pandora-jewelry.com/US.aspx">Pandora</a> bracelets for birthday presents for each other. You can buy charms to put on the bracelets and that's what we've done for birthday's and Christmas so far. (To avoid confusion, sometimes I just call them my bracelet friends!)<br /><br />Kim is getting married this month so we pitched in to get her some lingerie and other fun things for the honeymoon. I think it's funny cause you have Chris, Kathy, Carrie and I who are SO not shy about things like that, and then you have Cassie, Kim and Marisa who tend to be more private and reserved about things like that! Nonetheless, I don't think Kim was <em>too</em> embarrassed and we had a fun time! Here are a few pics from our night out:<br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5198675340783504370" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOlG0RoArLi5gfAHug9XxCLLKhi5aBuOcyEvlLb1dY9Zcnb-IHFnHS6S0VDRi6VJHgGNvG1ep5DnqUh-x32jsSRq8whdUPvcBO8NQqV64LMxVxNmidgoGCcfPU6CCzvaGZZ2SJIY2U0Pc/s320/GNO2.JPG" border="0" /></div><p align="center">The whole gang: Carrie, Krista, Cassie, Kathy, Chris, Kim & Marisa</p><p align="left"> </p><p align="center"></p><p align="center"></p><p align="center"></p><p align="center"></p><p align="center"></p><p align="center"></p><p align="center"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5198675538352000050" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5dkBooKOcgu5dHnHSC4D7m2diJuQLErGGN6_azk1wu3wscpZ9x4WggKPRdPuTQQ1980eGGs_jYN0HvrwyG9c4l0_kfD117c34yfatGBS-F2ccsWwQlxkDUXxyxVj22QB_sQ2-1KkRZi8/s320/gno3.JPG" border="0" /></p><p align="center">Carrie, Baby Owen, Cassie, Kathy & Marisa</p><p align="left"> </p><p align="center"></p><p align="center"></p><p align="center"></p><p align="center"></p><p align="center"><br /></p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5198675345078471682" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBEFTUbNuTrCtZr2GwrK73s6dBtwDK9znbzwDI7g5PHlL4AwxcXb6h2sWKaIeo1jOmQSb2IeofsRQ8VckGdAwP3Rk5CrUAFPspaFwpkHAlN45QnRwBUJsHipejv02gfK44fi057GqGUdU/s320/gno4.JPG" border="0" /> <p align="center">Best Roomies ever! It sometimes seems like almost everything that could cause stress, anxiety or worry has hit me. I won't go into any detail, but I think the past six months may have been the hardest to-date for me. I know we all go through trials, temptations, and tribulations for a reason though. I remember when I was a young woman hearing a talk by President Benson (I <em>think </em>that's who it was), and he talked about how he prayed every day for a new mountain to climb. He said every time he conquered a mountain and overcame trial, he came out a better, stronger, more faithful person. I remember thinking, "I don't think I could EVER pray for that!" I'm still not sure if I would, but I know it's true. As I continue to work out the things going on in my life, it's quotes like this that make me happy and hopeful!<br /><br />"The challenges you face, the growth experiences you encounter, are intended to be temporary scenes played out on the stage of a life of continuing peace and happiness. Sadness, heartache, and disappointment are events in life. It is not intended that they be the substance of life. I do not minimize how hard some of these events can be. When the lesson you are to learn is very important, trials can extend over a long period of time, but they should not be allowed to become the confining focus of everything you do. Your life can and should be wondrously rewarding. It is your understanding and application of the laws of God that will give your life glorious purpose as you ascend and conquer the difficulties of life. That perspective keeps challenges confined to their proper place--stepping-stones to further growth and attainment."<br /> – Elder Richard G. Nancy's brother Ben ended up coming to town from Vegas so we decided to set him up on a date. We lined him up with my old roomie Chris and hoped it would be a match-made in heaven! We met up at the Lion's House for a quick bite before the show. After we ate we headed over to see <a href="http://www.lds.org/events/info/0,8197,726-1-658,00.html"><em>Joseph Smith the Prophet</em></a><em>, </em>at the tabernacle. (A funny side-note, we ran into Phyllis, one of my friend's from high-school. I probably hadn't seen her in four years prior to our lunch yesterday, and and now again on Temple square the next day!) Anyway, Ryan was running late because he got out of work late and I hadn't told him it was best-dressed (oops), so we ended up going in without him. I was excited because Presidents Monson and Uchtdorf came in and we had a perfect view of them the whole time. On top of that, the concert was amazing!<br />As for the match-made in heaven? Well, no numbers were exchanged, but I guess ya never know! It was a fun night. Thanks for the invites, Martins!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-282274977997202616.post-82158330757550193512008-04-25T03:49:00.008-06:002008-04-25T04:43:52.303-06:00Class Reunion?Today was a fun day. Adie and I planned to go to lunch with <a href="http://karaelmore.typepad.com/">Kara</a> today. I was excited to see them both, but little did I know it would be a CHS class reunion! I showed up and it ended up being Adie, Kara, Cheridan, Phyllis and Amberlee. What fun! I guess Adie called the others this morning and pulled together an impromptu gathering. It was really great to see them and some of their cute kids.<br />It's crazy to think we are all the same age, yet Cheridan and Phyllis both have five children, and Adie, Kara & Amberlee have three each. Wow, what the heck have <em>I</em> been doing?! Anyway, we laughed a lot, reminisced and got caught up. We had such a great group of friends growing up and in high school. We were always out and about trying to find some fun adventures. We went to Bear Lake in the summers, Mesquite for Spring Break, and Teasdale (Capital Reef National Park) for our Senior trip. I loved those years! A few years after we'd graduated however, we'd all kinda gone our separate ways. I began to believe the things my brother Weston used to tell me about how we were only friends because of geographics. I started thinking we really didn't have a lot in common and were just meant to be good friends during my adolescent years. We'd still try and get together every year for a Christmas party, but sometimes I felt like we were all just so different. It wasn't until a few years ago I realized how much fun we still had. This last December, we all met up at Karen's house for our annual party and it was then I really <em>knew </em>we weren't only friends <em>just</em> because we'd grown up together. We are all girls trying to do the best we can in life. We have so much fun together and a connection that takes us back to our childhood! I'm so glad we've remained friends and I really believe we will for life. :)<br /><br />Here are a few pics from our ten-year (ahem) reunion. Yes, I know I look different, please don't point it out. HA!<br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5193130699269160402" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVl0O0Kj6mZ3JUTLZPXk3HwpnQDaTTYbYEunYwmZdjcw7I-svvGLOElyvK_RjfzZ-3MTFO9U0HZS6pG-bF-hr37f5J6y0_GNgWUNDJbEXxQfVPhuaIG_Acd1OH819IhfyJALGYo7vc8ys/s400/10yearreunion.jpg" border="0" /> <p align="center">Karen, Me, Katie, Amberlee</p><p align="center"></p><br /><p align="center"></p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5193130703564127714" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjft-3hyphenhyphenGy8stsBefYtA5j0IpcBnGkiDnrs5m1Ar0EU2RwW5f-XX2wrWbeoOZWzE9WQwSN8krw2_V6HOr6fcNh4kBbO_9CY4aGxrx-Totq4fgKGbER2tZ6x4KWYU-Nb8RfgM4RZtx2gkgo/s400/reunion3.jpg" border="0" /> <p align="center"></p><p align="center"><span style="font-family:arial;">Clockwise: Karen, Amberlee, Me, Liz, Katie, Denise, Cheridan & Kara</span></p><br /><p></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-282274977997202616.post-57823615097692956702008-04-23T00:44:00.007-06:002008-04-25T03:38:15.261-06:00Getting to know me!I haven't had much to write about lately, but my friend Audri tagged me so here is a fun little survey:<br /><br />A - Attached or single: Attached to Ryan, for almost three years now.<br />B - Best Friend: Ryan :)<br />C - Cake or Pie: I'd probably have to say pie. Several weeks ago my brother Brady asked if our family would be able to come help him get his house ready to remodel. Friday evening we all headed to Brady's and got to work. We pulled up carpet and tackboard, scrubbed walls and cupboards, pounded out tile and linoleum, mudded, patched and sanded and other various jobs. Of the twenty-five members of my immediate family, almost all were there to help. At one point Dallin and Nicole were on top of the cupboards vacuuming and scrubbing. Jed and my dad were doing all the taping and drywall stuff since they're so good at it. RaNae and Melissa took on the grueling task of pulling tacks and staples out of the floors. Weston taped and painted. Ryan, Brett and Brady were pouding out the tiling and various other things. My mom kept things organized and swept right under our feet. At all times everone was busy working hard and getting things done. I'm so grateful for a family who is so willing to help each other. My family has always pitched in and pulled together whether it was someone moving, painting, putting in a yard, or building a shed. It's so nice to know you can count on your family and they will always be there in any time of need!<br /><br />The next day was a day I had been looking forward to for weeks. Ryan and I had gotten tickets to see one of my favorite artists, Ingrid Michaelson. I love her voice, her songs and harmonies, not to mention she is really down to earth. I know that because she and I are pretty tight. HA! Anyway, The concert was actually called the Hotel Cafe Tour which featured a lot of up and coming artists. There were some cool people I liked; Meika, and Dan Wilson, but there simply was not enough Ingrid. What she did sing was amazing live though and it was great because we were right up close to the front and had a perfect view! Afterwards, we started shuffling out but I noticed a few people milling around by the stage. I told Ryan I wanted to see if she'd come out. Sure enough, a few minutes later she came out. Did I actually wait to meet her, get a picture taken with her and ask for an autograph? Yes, yes I did. I'm pretty sure Ryan thinks I'm a huge nerd, and actually I think I'm a huge nerd for doing so, but what the heck? It was fun! Anyway, I only had my camera phone with no flash so the picture is pretty much pitch black, but here it is:</div><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="center"><br /><br /></div><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="center"></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5188339560080063522" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO4B6x8r8q0SeNG1Q0tKpMmfXkr3dcw8aDV7dMITcGuI4wHDO0_o2K-dQKrfXRldoTZA8sKPRzcyrn5lDKatX6HcSomd9hOy8SKFbScQk0rgKVVaSjVLmwDl1uY99VKnz6LJ7by5kAOUg/s320/Ingrid.JPG" border="0" /> <p align="center">Best buds, Ingrid & Krista<br /><br /><br /></p><div align="center"><br /></div><br /><div align="center"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5188238254686452754" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVZ5SidQEQAMy868VXbw41csyLLh-mvj1WY8xIWlsfYJPHO9N7Q6_x3zU8Dgg0azO-Zl-dLERbrdC2E7gSvs3RXBfp6WXqRH3XW0H5IN1jCBR8IH6Q0ty0D4OkdqnLJOtBwOXfo9VENhM/s320/Ingrid+autograph.JPG" border="0" /></div><br /><p align="center">Apparently I'm her #1 fan</p><br /><p align="center"></p><br /><p align="left">After a great night with Ryan we went our separate ways and headed home. The next day was General Conference. I always love when it's conference time and we get to hear from our Prophet and apostles. Even though I love and miss President Hinckley dearly, I love President Monson and know he truly is a prophet of God. I recorded Saturday's session since I wasn't able to watch it and have yet to watch it. Soon though!</p><br /><p align="left">Now tonight is Friday night again. Ryan came up after work so we could go to Albertson's! What could be more fun for a Friday night date? It's kinda sad actually. The Alberton's on Antelope Drive (next to Kmart) is closing. It's so weird because it's the store we always went to (besides Hamblin's) growing up. That was long before the days of having a Smith's and Walmart in Syracuse, let alone a traffic light! Anyway, most everything in the store is 75% off so we wanted to see if we could get some deals! We got there and I'd say more than 80% of the merchandise is already gone. Nevertheless, we got a few steals and it was fun to watch Mr. I-Hate-Shopping going through the bargains. After shopping, we got some take-out chinese food and now I'm here at work. I'd say I had a pretty great week!</p><br /><p></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-282274977997202616.post-54835923965268584082008-04-03T00:04:00.001-06:002008-04-12T00:29:28.458-06:00Family FiresideWhat a week! Last Saturday night Ryan came up to take me out for my birthday. My surprise party was so great I didn't need anything more, but Ryan insisted. He ended up taking me to a delicious Mexican restaurant in Farr West called Bella's. I highly recommend the chicken taquitos, they were SO good! Afterward we stopped at my oldest bro's house, (Ryan and RaNae's) and had a nice quick visit with them. "My" Ryan (it's sometimes <em>very</em> confusing to have your brother and boyfriend share the same name!) ended up staying over at my house that night because we were going to my brother Ryan's ward in the morning. The next day we went to Hooper to see my bro speak. He was put in as 1st counselor in his ward. Afterwards he was set apart and my dad ordained my brother as a high priest. It was really neat to be there for that and my dad gave a really special blessing.<br /><br />After that I had to rush back to my own ward for YW's, and Ryan headed home. This was my actual birthday and it was cute cause all the girls sang Happy Birthday to me. Later, on Sunday evening, my mom, Kellee, and I attended a fireside in our stake. Elder Jeffery R. Holland of the Twelve came to our stake center and spoke on the importance of families. What a privilege to have an apostle and his wife come and speak to us! One thing he said that was so poignant was that everything in this church, sooner or later, comes down to the family. Some other great things he said:<br /><br />-The day we don't have time to pray or read our scriptures is the very day we need it most.<br /><br />-This life is not home, it's a step along the way. Everything in this life is pointed toward the next.<br /><br />-This earth life gives us the practice to be Godly. How much of what we love about the Savior was done in a church? It was done out where life was being lived. <em>That </em>is where the gospel is lived and how the Savior taught.<br /><br />-We are kinder to the store clerk than our loved ones. It cannot be! We should have no contention one with another. Our hearts should be knit together in unity and love. You can't tear something apart this is knit together. It's unyielding.<br /><br />Anyway, it was a really great fireside and I'm grateful I could be there. At the end, he gave us an assignment. He told us to find where we can be more Godly, whether it's in being more compassionate, forgiving, harmonious etc. Then he blessed us if we would, we'd see miracles in our lives and in our families. It was such a great night! I wish Ryan could have been there!<br /><br /><br />The next day I got to go watch baby Tayson. My sister-in-law Melissa is graduating next month with her RN. She has class for just a couple hours on Monday's, she has also had to precept at the hospital where she basically works for free. Before you can graduate you have to put in so many hours shadowing another nurse. Anyway, it's been great that I can help out and watch the baby. He is such a sweet, happy baby and I love getting to spend the extra time with him!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-282274977997202616.post-8724417610507565182008-03-29T04:31:00.008-06:002008-04-12T00:30:51.716-06:00Surprise!!<div align="left"><strong>Friday, March 28th, 2008</strong></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left">A few days ago, my brother Brett asked if Ryan and I wanted to come over on Friday to have a ping-pong tournament. He said he was having some friends over and they were going to do a bracket-style tourney. I told Ryan about it and he was definitely up for it! Tonight (Friday)rolled around and I was waiting for Ry to get off work and come up. I got the idea that I wanted to make some of that gooey, coconuty, chex mix. When Ryan got to my house, I told him I wanted to go to Smith's to buy some of the necessary ingredients. We got to Smith's and I started gathering things up, and Ryan kept trying to talk me out of making it. I didn't want to go to Brett's empty-handed so I insisted. The bill came to $20 or so and Ryan said he would pay for it. I didn't understand why he'd pay when he didn't even want me to make it, but I thought it was very sweet of him. After that I tried calling my sis Kell to see if she was coming, but I could not get hold of her. I called Brett to see if we could come now and he told me he got caught up at work and would be late. He asked if I'd go and pick up two pizza's at the Little Caesar's in Clinton. I said I would, so Ry and I headed to Clinton. I didn't think two pizza's would be enough to feed everyone, so I got a third one, plus some breadsticks. We finally made our way to Brett's house and walked in. </div><div align="left"><br /></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left">"SURPRISE!" My sister Kellee, along with the help of Brett, and Ry planned a surprise party for me! My whole family (excluding my parents, who had Jazz tickets) was there, Laura, Kalani and kids, Amy Bedoya, Codee Jones and her fam, Thom, Tandra and Mason, and Chris (my old roomie) were all there! I was so shocked! I seriously had no idea. And me, being the big baby I am, started crying because it was so sweet! Kellee had contacted all these people weeks ago and planned it all. She even called my work to have the first couple hours of my shift covered! What a great sis! At the party they already had eight pizza's, and my mom had made a huge yummy salad, some delicious dip, and she also bought the cake. Needless to say, the Chex mix never came to fruition, and it's no wonder Ryan was trying to talk me out of it! I had such a great time though and was so grateful to everyone who came. It was the best birthday ever! Here are some pics from tonight:</div><div align="center"><br /><br /></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"><br /><br /></div><p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtRAt_vrc2T3JOA2r-r7NYyLVXIeXuog4TDFFc6t1v_GgTf_4p2pCmYLjr8891qpT-gHSnuu3U1-f_pGh5h5TPZv4ccq2mGxzWIsXUDWzCZduMLb7MtywBG2J1DMVbzVEQ-PXBnrnKqcc/s1600-h/DSCN0294.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5183113643682753762" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtRAt_vrc2T3JOA2r-r7NYyLVXIeXuog4TDFFc6t1v_GgTf_4p2pCmYLjr8891qpT-gHSnuu3U1-f_pGh5h5TPZv4ccq2mGxzWIsXUDWzCZduMLb7MtywBG2J1DMVbzVEQ-PXBnrnKqcc/s320/DSCN0294.JPG" border="0" /></a> What's that?
